Mixing Kick Drum For Rock Music
I listen to a lot of recordings when I’m mastering and one of the biggest issues I see is that a lot of people have trouble getting the kick drum to be big and clear. All too often, they sound thin, too boomy, or just not audible enough in the mix.
If you find yourself with the same issues, I’ve made a video showing what you can do to fix this.
In this video, I’m going to walk you through my typical chain and show you exactly how I use gates, EQ, compression, saturation and some harmonic exciters to make really big, punchy kicks that cut through a mix.
